The earliest historical record of the current Pretzhof, or the good “high house at the Tulfer” as it was known, was in 1249. Amazingly, it was mentioned in the fifth volume of the Medieval land records of the Brixen diocese, II. The earliest known ancestor of the current owner, Hanns Mayr, bought the yard in 1695 from Christian Prez who was from Stilfes, which perhaps explains the origins of the Pretzhof’s name. We do not know why this Christian Prez was so significant to have this building named after him. However, the name “Pretz” appears time and again in the Registers of the parish church of Wiesen after 1750. The building was known as “Prözen” by the regional court of Sterzing in 1792.
